Thick as Thieves presents Rogerseventytwo Australian tour

Having teased us with hints at a possible stopover to Australia in the past, Thick as Thieves is pleased to announce Rogerseventytwo will make his Oz debut next month on Australia Day eve and will tour nationwide over 3 weekends.

One half of TWR72, Rogerseventytwo has been a favourite of everyone from Erol Alkan and Brodinski to Diplo and A-Trak with jams like “Future Tool” and “Summer”. But ever since his first Fools Gold release “You Take Me Higher” Rogerseventytwo has started to make waves all on his own.

Hailing from The Hague, Netherlands, Rogerseventytwo started producing in the early 2000s but took a break to finish up his studies in graphic design. It didn’t last long though as fellow countrymen Laidback Luke, Bart B More and Bingo Players got him right back in to the producing game saving dancefloor around the world.

After spending a staggering 8 weeks on top of the Aria Club Charts this year, Rogerseventytwo’s irresistible disco house sing-along “You Take Me Higher” went unsigned for months and months until A-Trak (who had made it a staple of his live sets, both solo and as Duck Sauce with Armand Van Helden) snapped it up for Fool’s Gold.

Don’t miss Rogerseventytwo on his first-ever Australian tour:

Konkrete Agency Presents:

LAIDBACK LUKE

Australian tour

Born in Manila but educated in The Netherlands, Laidback Luke has come a long way since his days as a graffiti artist.

“A lot of times I just produce in airports, on airplanes and in hotel rooms. I love producing as it’s the thing I love to do most. If I have the choice between watching a new movie or producing a new track, it’s always to produce. I’m a produce-aholic.”

That’s Laidback Luke for you. Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen is quite a mouthful, so it’s good that he’s known as the Dutch Dynamo, Laidback Luke. If the windows are bulging, the speakers bursting and people dancing, chances are the crafty cat that is Laidback Luke is somewhere nearby.

Laidback Luke grew up in The Netherlands and made his name as a graffiti artist before he turned to making music. As a youngster, Luke loved guitars, graffiti, house and hip-hop – he took his ‘laidback’ moniker from Snoop Dogg’s Gin & Juice. The first time Luke tackled electronic music was at a friend’s digs who just happened to own a Commodore Amiga. He showed Luke that he, too, could make songs with bits and pieces of other songs using technology. It was then Luke discovered he wanted to make his own music. And the rest, as they say, is history.

His mentor, Dobre (Chocolate Puma), helped find his feet in the sometimes murky world of electronica, and by the time 1996 arrived, the Dutchman had released tracks, remixes and was DJ professionally. One achievement to note is his triumph at a Dutch DMC championship.

His first album arrived in 1999 before his 2002 album, Electronic Satisfaction, propelled him to greatness. Luke has worked alongside the stalwarts of electronic music – The Swedish House Mafia (Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello) as well as David Guetta, Moby, Black Eyed Peas and Junior Sanchez. Oh, he’s also remixed for the legendary Daft Punk, Dizzee Rascal, Depeche Mode and MSTRKRFT. And if that’s not enough to wet your appetite, his collaboration with the Swedish House Mafia on Leave the World Behind became Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune and one of Beatport’s best-selling tracks.

Luke’s not just a talented DJ, producer, remixer and artist, he’s also a damn savvy operator as his Mixmash record label proves. What makes Luke a standout is his blistering approach to basslines – if the needle’s in the red, it must sound good. Just don’t be fooled by his laidback moniker. Sure, he’s got over 190,000 Twitter followers and boards more flights in a year than many will board in their lifetime, yet get him behind the decks when the music’s jumping and Luke is anything but laidback.

Thick as Thieves presents FRITZ KALKBRENNER Australian tour confirmed for one weekend this December

On the back of his Melbourne showcase on Friday 16th December, with Octave One and John Roberts,

Fritz Kalkbrenner is set to sway crowds with his unique take on techno in his solo shows as part of his epic world tour for debut album ‘Here

Today Gone Tomorrow’. With a show already announced at Billboard in

Melbourne, we can now confirm a second performance at Chinese Laundry in Sydney on the 17th of December.

Fritz made his first impressions on the electronic music community as a vocalist, lending his pipes to productions by the likes of Sasha Funke, Alexander Kowalski, Monika Kruse. Fritz most notably helped brother Paul Kalkbrenner, adding vocals for ‘Sky and Sand’ that featured on the ‘Berlin Calling’ soundtrack. His first longplayer as a techno artist was no less stunning, with last year’s ‘Here Today Gone Tomorrow’ dishing up vocal techno of the highest order. Recruiting the likes of Paul Kalkbrenner, Booka Shade, Sasha Funke, Henrik Schwarz and co. for remixing duties on album singles ‘Kings in Exile’, Right in the Dark’ and ‘Facing the Sun’.

So if you don’t catch the German DJ/Producer’s techno-soul at the Octave One, Fritz Kalkbrenner and John Roberts show don’t miss his individual show in Sydney.

Oliver $ has all the relative credentials. Berliner? Check. Residency at sometimes-infamous Panorama Bar? Check. Number 1 Beatport track? Check. Now you can add an Australian tour to that list as Oliver $ heads to our shores this summer.

It’s no surprise that over the past 3 years Oliver $’s name and reputation has gradually risen in the world of house music. First turning heads in 2009 with “Whatcha Gonna Do” and “You Got It” on Made To Play. Soon production credits merged into aspects of touring, as he also embarked on a US tour alongside label head Jesse Rose and Riva Starr to promote the Scion release “A Night at Made to Play”.

In 2011 Oliver $’s “Doing Ya Thang” has become this years biggest underground track to date. Released on Play It Down (a sub-label of Made To Play), “Doing Ya Thing” charms you with its amazing vocal hooks while the unmistakable sample of Kenny Dixon Junior aka Moodymann’s impromptu DJ speech in Manchester along with low-slung bass, warm claps and hi-hats pulls you into an interstellar trace. The track has been played by producers across the board and has catapulted Oliver $ into a new league.

2012 will be the year that Oliver $ goes from promising house producer to international juggernaut. Catch him now on this Australian tour before he gets too busy to write back to your emails and eventually stops answering your calls.

Thick as Thieves presents Phil Kieran Australian tour

The techno ace is returning to Australia, again to showcase his innovative forward thinking music style, these will be shows that’ll blow local beat fiends out of the water once again!

Phil Kieran has been in the upper echelons of the electronic music game for more than a decade. Phil is known for rocking clubs and releasing strings of killer twelves, Belfast-based Phil hooked up with German powerhouse Sven Väth’s Cocoon. His album SHH, a groundbreaking piece of work, gained Phil plaudits across the board.

Listen carefully to Kieran’s productions and you can detect elements of dub reggae, old hardcore like LFO, hip-hop, early 90s electronica such as Autechre/Black Dog and other Warp staples, as well as the futuristic techno that Phil excels in.

Phil has synthesized his myriad of influences into one radically beautiful whole: blissed-out vocal samples, space age electro, cavernous bleeps, fizzy technoid 4/4 beats, glistening glitches, crackers crackles, early R&S sounds, warm keys, acerbic bassline undertows, dense echoes, Orbital cinematics and randy robotics all feature. This style is also the blueprint for his own inprint Phil Kieran Recordings.

Cutting his clubbing teeth at Shine in Belfast, Phil now has over 100 dancefloor releases to his name on quality labels like Skint, Soma, Electric Deluxe Cocoon and NovaMute, and is widely respected throughout the industry among the technoscenti. He’s involved himself in movie scoring, creating the soundtrack for Steven Soderbergh film The Girlfriend Experience with fellow Irish compatriot David Holmes. To exorcise some demons a few years ago he created a live techno punk band Alloy Mental, variously melding Joy Division basslines onto pummeling punky T.Raumschmiere-style technoid power-drivers. He also has an impeccable DJ reputation that’s won him a top 20 placing in DJ magazine’s global 100 DJs poll, plus regular features and reviews in all the major magazines is a guarantee to promoters that he’ll inevitably rock the joint to its foundations.

Phil has recently released on Cocoon, Snork Enterprises, Electric Deluxe and Gigolo. He has also found the time to program his own imprint Phil Kieran Recordings, which launched with the re-release of his immortal dancefloor destroyer ‘Skyhook’. For this release Phil drafted in some of his friends to do remixes and featured artists including Adam Beyer, Jesper Dahlback, Scuba, SCB, Ricardo Tobar and Green Velvet. Second release Carrousel featured Wesley Matsell and Egbert, releases are scheduled all the way up to the labels 10th release with a compilation best of coming soon. He has also completed a remix on MUTE records for Depeche Mode.

Phil has also tentatively started work on his Second Studio Album as yet untitled, one of the first tracks completed includes a collab with Peter Hook of Joy Division fame. In the meantime his rework of a Gary Numan’s classic ‘I cant stop’ has been released on his own inprint and Phil has continued to put out quality Techno with the new dancefloor destroyer and top seller Free Yourself with his long time friend Green Velvet. His recent re-release of Juicy has hit the top ten again on the Beatport techno charts. The second collab single with Green Velvet ‘Michael Jackson’ will be out before the end of the year.

Phil is happy to have joined Jochem Paap’s Electric Deluxe with his label debut empty vessels being one of the highest selling releases of 2010/11, his new project Workshops with Speedy J has had its first release with Workshops Vol1. The idea behind it is to explore the recording techniques used in the middle of the 20th century and dating right back to the mid 1950′s.
Famous places like the BBC workshops in England and the Philips Lab set up in Holland which saw some of the most innovative production techniques, experimenting with the first use of stereo, modular synths and reels of tape. The end result was always something space age and promising futuristic and still to this day sounding crisp and exciting.

Phil Kieran and Jochem Paap have decided to use this as inspiration to effortlessly accomplish an innovative mix of old ideas with new. Collaboration and exploration is the key here and it doesn’t stop with workshops, Kieran is also working on new material with Peter Hook (Joy Division), Ben Klock, Xhin, Boxcutter, Green Velvet and many many more. www.philkieran.com

Phil Kieran has been a busy man since his last visit to Australia, making and producing so much music that it’ll be hard to fit it into a single set. With the promise of so many new tunes why would you want to miss it? Make sure you check out Phil Kieran on this Australian tour.

Hi. We at Marble are proud to announce that we’ll be releasing the debut full length by Surkin, called “USA”, on November 7th.

Originally designed to be out on Institubes, we immediately thought of Marble as the perfect platform to release it after the demise of our former label. It’ll feature 16 tracks, with guest vocals by Detroit’s Ann Saunderson and Chicago’s Kevin Irving (the voice of house blueprint « Move Your Body » by Marshall Jefferson), and two collaborations with longtime friend and label mate Bobmo, whom with Surkin works as High Powered Boys.

It’s a joyous, juvenile, body-moving record, based on the idea of a radio station called Fireworks FM, set up in Silver Springs. The whole vibe exhales a fantasized eighties soundscape, infused with dance subgenres from that era but dramatically edited by Surkin’s own imaginary memories.

Club tracks galore, but also expect more melodic, emotional mid-tempo cuts, but definitely not in a filler way. Mastery all over the place yet infused with a tremendous feeling of exuberance and freedom. Needless to say it’s an instant classic.

First single Ultra Light is a big room monster, recently selected as Essential New Tune by Radio One. It has been released on September 26th, along with a non-album track B-side.

1. Let’s Ride

2. Lose Yourself (ft. Ann Saunderson)

On the back of a blazing Australian debut tour in April 2010 and landmark work with Modeselektor as Moderat, Sascha Ring brings his revered Apparat project back to Melbourne for a live PA this December.

If the saying goes that timing is everything, then Apparat’s Australian fans should be salivating. After three acclaimed longplayers, the German is on the verge of releasing his most accomplished compositions to date, with new album ‘The Devil’s Walk’ set to drop in late September.

The title, a nod to Shelley’s 1812 satirical poem of the same name, is the album in which Sascha grows up and raises his game. If last LP, 2007’s ‘Walls’, hinted at a move away from the heat of the dancefloor, ‘The Devil’s Walk’, with its cool, contemplative dream-pop and bruise-tender Sigur Rós texture, makes that explicit.

Already, every indication points to new material striking a poignant chord with listeners, with soaring album cut ‘Ash/Black Veil’ notching up an impressive 90,000 plays on Soundcloud within a few weeks.

Apparat’s live shows have evolved in leaps and bounds too, as the German grows into a more accomplished performer with every gig. For this upcoming tour of Australia, Apparat will be hitting the Antipodes in full band mode, with with co-producer Patrick “Nackte” Christensen (piano, guitar, bass), Ben Lauber (rhodes, keyboards) and Jörg Wähner (drums, percussion) joining Sascha on stage to showcase cuts from ‘The Devil’s Walk’ and other Apparat gems from throughout the years.

smalltown presents Octave One (Live), Fritz Kalkbrenner (Live) & John Roberts (Live) Australian Tour

Techno comes in many disparate forms, but for most, the affect is still the same: rhythm-induced hypnosis and an escape from the rigmarole of daily life. Octave One, Fritz Kalkbrenner and John Roberts have all travelled vastly different roads in the techno world, but unite for a special tour of Australia in December where they will all be playing live shows and present their own unique take on techno.

Octave One is brothers Lenny and Lawrence Burden, native sons of Detroit. The pair is responsible for the Motor City classic ‘Blackout’, the label 430 West, and seven studio albums between 1994-2009. This year welcomes the release of their retrospective compilation ‘Revisited: Here, There, and Beyond’, where the band’s classics are reworked by some of their favourite producers, including Luke Slater, Sandwell District, Ken Ishii, Alexander Kowalski and more. Lenny and Lawrence’s debut tour of Australia in January was nothing short of breathtaking, with Resident Advisor giving their set at Beck’s Festival Bar 5/5.

Fritz Kalkbrenner made his first impressions on the electronic music community as a vocalist, lending his pipes to productions by the likes of Sasha Funke, Alexander Kowalski, Monika Kruse and most notably his brother Paul Kalkbrenner for ‘Sky and Sand’ that featured on the ‘Berlin Calling’ soundtrack. His first longplayer as a techno artist was no less stunning, with last year’s ‘Here Today Gone tomorrow’ dishing up vocal techno of the highest order, while recruiting the likes of Paul Kalkbrenner, Booka Shade, Sasha Funke, Henrik Schwarz and co. for remixing duties on album singles ‘Kings in Exile’, Right in the Dark’ and ‘Facing the Sun’

John Roberts is rapidly whipping up a deep house storm. Asked by Carsten Jost, Pantha Du Prince and Lawrence to be the first American artist on the influential German Dial Records imprint, he also releases cuts on its sister label Laid, all of which have received major accolades for their distinctive and refined aesthetic. The Berlin-based artist dropped his debut artist album ‘Glass Eights’ on Dial last year, with Resident Advisor giving it 4 ½ stars and declaring it “one of the years most engaging and contemplative full-lengths”.
Tornado Wallace, the elusive and enigmatic DJ/producer is discreetly taking on the world with his hybrid of house, techno and deep groove with the slinky disco playa responsible for three standout releases in 2010, all supported by contemporaries such as Jimpster, Mr Scruff, The Revenge, Eric Duncan, Horse Meat Disco, Greg Wilson, Matthew Dear, Mark E, Eddie C, DJ T and more. 2011 looks just as bright with his next two releases on The Revenge’s Instruments of Rapture and Delusions of Grandeur set to solidify him as the leading figure in Melbourne’s resurgence on the world stage. Gigs at Space – Ibiza, Plastic People – London, Watergate – Berlin, Milan, Bucharest to name but a few, remixes for Cut Copy and Mike Callander, plus the coveted Resident Advisor Podcast, Australia is surely in for a treat this summer

Pleasurekraft (Great Stuff // 1605 // Hotfingers) Tour

The hottest rising stars in dance music, Pleasurekraft, is heading to Australia for the first time this October/November. The lads took the world before them with last year’s gargantuan ‘Tarantula’ bomb not only selling the most units on Beatport, but also winning the coveted ‘Track of the year’ gong (all genres) at the digital merchant’s annual awards in Miami in March 2011.

It’s been a rapid rise to the summit for the international duo, American Kaveh Soroush and Swedish Kalle Ronngardh, who only birthed the project in the summer of 2009. Completing remixes for Chymera and John Acquaviva’s Definitive label, the pair was the surprise packet of 2010 when ‘Tarantula’ dropped to worldwide acclaim and show no signs of slowing down.

Already in-demand for their remixes, having re-rubbed Style of Eye, Sander Kleinenberg and Sneaky Sound System, among others, the momentum behind their original productions continues to speedball; just ask Pete Tong and Annie Mac who are championing Pleasurekraft’s latest gem, the wonky house cut ‘Carny’.

Behind the dex they are no less devastating, dishing up a hook-ridden brand of tech house that’s seen their stocks skyrocket. In the past 12 months these new kids on the block have supported Deadmau5, ripped it up at Electric Daisy Carnival and knocked the dancefloor for six at Global Gathering in Poland. Lucky for Australian dance music lovers, that the Antipodes is next on the list!
