There are few names in dance music as big as Carl Cox. Since making his name in the ‘80s, the gentleman of electronic music has remained one of the most respected and renowned DJs in the world. Now he’s back at his spiritual Melbourne home.
Sometimes words are superfluous. The veteran and all-round nice guy of electronic music is back for another crack at Billboard The Venue. Don’t miss Carl Cox’s 3 hour set February 26th at Billboard The Venue.
Born in England, Cox has been there and done it all. He’s been an electronic music ambassador since he was a toddler and a DJ since his early teens. Cox has lost none of his enthusiasm and energy for the music he adores. For him it’s about sharing the moment with the crowd.
The Englishman has seen genres come and fade away. He witnessed the dawn of acid house and saw the gradual passing of rave. Regardless of what may be the current musical flavour of the month, Cox continues to emit emotion whenever and wherever he plays. Look for him behind the decks, head bopping up and down in time with the beats, sweat pouring as he flicks the cross-fader to deliver a track that will ignite the dance floor. He can be spotted behind the decks, his hands aloft, egging the crowd to clap along with the music. Hearing Carl Cox is one thing, seeing him live is entirely another.
When he’s behind the turntables with an audience in front of him, watch him go – you can’t stop him. It’s what he knows. It’s what he lives for and what he does best. In his words, he lives for those moments. He grew up listening and enjoying music without prejudice, and that’s apparent in all that he does.
Over the years he’s continued to deliver dangerously contagious tunes. It’s a measure of his status and success that his sets are continuously sold out regardless of where he plays. The techno talisman is a true legend of the music scene as he continues to embrace the technological changes which influence what we hear today.
Based in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, his love affair with Australia and the Australia way of life is well known. He’s produced triumphant albums and continues to run his successful record label. Referred to as the “People’s DJ”, it’s a name that’s followed him around the globe.
His F.A.C.T. (an acronym for Future Alliance of Communications and Tecknowlogy) compilation is widely known as seminal. And talking of compilations, Billboard is pleased to announce that Carl’s gig will be the official launch of his forthcoming Global Underground CD, recorded at Burning Man.
Coxy’s love-affair with Billboard continues. The nicest man in Melbourne is again heading to the nicest club in Melbourne (for the 4th time, in fact). Coxy’s coming home to play for the familiar faces and as a special treat he’ll be dropping and testing new and exclusive tracks for his forthcoming Ultra Festival gig in Miami.
With support from Eric Powell, this gig has become an institution and will sell out, fast. Be at home with familiar faces and a banging sound-system this February.
