Dixon (Innervisions/Germany) tour Australia Day Weekend

When injuries kept young Steffen “Dixon” Berkhahn from what may have been a successful soccer career, the German turned to music.

DJ Dixon’s grasped opportunities with both hands. He learnt by becoming a very good DJ that clubbing life is what you make it. His motto is learning is by doing. He got to know the ups and downs of life as a club DJ and started to understand which direction to take a crowd. His musical apprenticeship was served before he passed his exam.

Dixon’s technical versatility, skills and positive attitude and based on countless nights of honing ways to direct and mould a crowd. He spent hours planing and selecting the right music for the right time.

Keeping this in mind, his production work goes far and beyond being a producer by association. He’s compiled and mixed the Off Limits compilation - a compilation that introduced him and his immaculate style of mixing to the wider dance music community.

Dixon’s also branched out to extend his skill set with his significant mix compilation for Get Physical Body Language series.

But that’s not the end of his talents. Dixon also dons his A&R hat, using events to strategically introduce foreign jocks to Berlin crowds. In the process, Dixon’s profile raised and a significant network was built, including a formidable bond with Jazzanova and their vibrant Sonar Kollektiv label.

Dixon’s view on house music and house music’s direction has helped him tap into areas he had not fully explored. Using the Sonar relationship to full aptitude, Dixon’s extended his idea of house music beyond simply DJing as he’s applied it to other people’s work by remixing the likes of Femi Kuti and a range of artists who reside at the deep house end of the spectrum.

His involvement with Recreation Recordings has added opportunity to sharpen his skills, arranging, discussing, tweaking and editing tracks towards the needs of clubbers’ ever-changing tastes. Dixon takes his profession seriously. Music is what matters to him. He’s a DJ first and foremost.
